Frogged - by Vivian Vande Velde (2013)

Frogged is a very silly book (even the chapter names are silly!). It's about a princess who, one day by a stream, meets a frog who insists he is a prince put under a spell (yes, he can talk). So the princess kisses him - and suddenly, he's a person, but she's a frog! Worse still, he wasn't even a prince at all!

Princess Imogene (yes, that's her name) decides to look for a person to kiss her in turn, but instead gets carried off by a boy and girl who have plans of their own. Princess Imogene  must find a way to get un-frogged. But how?

I really liked Frogged. It was a wonderful, funny book, and I recommend it to readers.

Finding Serendipity - by Angelica Banks (2015)

When Tuesday Mcgillycuddy and her dog Baxterr discover that Serendipity Smith, a famous author (and Tuesday's mother!) has gone missing, they decide to look for her. Tuesday starts typing on her mother's typewriter, and she and Baxterr are magically transported to the land where stories come from - and specifically into the world where all her mother's stories come from. They find themselves in a world of magic, fairies, pirates, ships and, at last - with a very happy ending.

I liked this book because it was kind of about writing a book (I love to write), and its story was great. I read all 280 pages of it in two days it was so good! I highly recommend Finding Serendipity to readers.

Book Reviews By & For Teens

Everyone knows that Rapunzel spent her early years locked up in a tower. We like to think she read plenty of books to while away the time, and that she’d appreciate our favorites.

We’re two teen siblings who have been reviewing and recommending great middle-grade (MG) and young adult (YA) books since 2014 (over ten years!). We’re particularly passionate about fantasy, queer books, and any story beautifully told.

    Young Adult Reviews!

We're now featuring reviews for YA (ages 12+) books alongside our middle-grade reviews on our main page! (If you're not sure if a book is young adult, check the age range--if it's 12, 13, or 14+, it's YA.)

Looking for more YA recommendations? Until 2022, we had a separate For Older Readers page, where we highlighted over two dozen awesome YA books. Check it out here!
