When eleven-year-old Gregor and his two-year-old sister Boots fall through a grate in their laundry room, Gregor isn’t sure what he expects to find. He certainly does not expect an underground world populated by giant cockroaches, bats, and spiders, along with violet-eyed humans fighting the evil (and also giant) rats who wish to rule the entire Underland. Gregor doesn’t want to get mixed up with the battles between these weird creatures. He only wants to go home. But then he is told of a strange prophecy about him, a prophecy that, with the help of the young Queen Luxa, her cousin Henry, and a few others, he sets out to fulfill.
I really enjoyed Gregor the Overlander and I would recommend it to readers ten and up. There are five books in the Underland chronicles and I loved them all.
Note: don’t let the big cockroaches, rats, etc. scare you off. I don’t much like them myself and ended up loving everything!
