The greatest wish of Cat, Poppy Pendle's daughter (see the review of The Power of Poppy Pendle, by the same author), is to inherit the gift of Magic from her mother. However, once she passes the normal age for inheriting magic, it looks like she might not have inherited it after all. Which is why everyone is surprised when Cat finds Poppy's old novice wand, and discovers - yay! - that she is a Late Bloomer. But telling her mother is not going to be easy. Poppy had some bad experiences with magic when she was younger, and, as a result, can't stand it. Which means that Cat is going to have to try to break it to her gently. And it probably won't help that one of the meanest witches living just escaped from Scrubbs Prison...
I love this book!
